12-Year-Old California Middle School Student, Yahshua Robinson, Dies After Being Forced to Run
Posted in Injury Information on September 8, 2023
Middle school student Yahshua Robinson died during gym class after being told to run in the 90-degree heat when he arrived at class in his regular clothes. Before collapsing, Robinson was asking for help and water, he then fell and became unresponsive. Emergency personnel were called and rushed him to the hospital where he unfortunately went into cardiac arrest and died.
This student’s death is deeply tragic and was completely preventable. Unfortunately, preventable student deaths like this are not isolated events.
Each day when we send our children to school we trust that the adults of the school will watch over them with the utmost care. Yet, there are several incidents each year in which tragic accidents or negligent actions lead to the wrongful death of students. Wrongful deaths of children at schools not only affect the family of the child but these deaths also leave a lasting impact on the school and other students.
Wrongful Deaths of Children at School
If your child’s school, the administrators and teachers in it, or the school district fail to protect your child from preventable harm, you may have a negligence claim for the wrongful death of your student. In Robinson’s case, his family has a clear claim for negligence as his death was completely preventable.
Oftentimes, these wrongful death claims stem from the district’s failure to properly train its teachers and coaches or from the teachers and coaches failing to follow proper protocol and training.
If your child died at school due to an adult’s negligent actions, you may have a claim.
